Story

Daniel and I were discussing how tough our dad's used to be, when we were coming up.  then we had kids and something happened to them. ;-)

Lyrics

Somebody’s Grandpa

Six feet tall and two hundred pounds

Daddy wasn’t the kind to ever back down

When he drew a line

Nobody dared to cross it

He believed in black and white

Good and bad and wrong and right

And when I thought I needed teaching a lesson

He taught it

Oh, who is that man being lead by the hand

Playing cars and trucks and building castles in the sand

Picking up rocks, picking up bugs, bending over getting hugs

From someone only three feet tall

Well it must be somebody’s grandpa

Now I aint saying he was mean or bad

But I can’t remember dear old dad

Ever letting me eat ice cream before dinner

Now he’s wiping a nose and tying a shoe

Watching cartoons instead of the news

And if he ever did that before I can’t remember

Oh, who is that man being lead by the hand

Playing cars and trucks and building castles in the sand

Picking up rocks, picking up bugs, bending over getting hugs

From someone only three feet tall

Well it must be somebody’s grandpa

Yeah he looks vaguely familiar

Beats all I ever saw

Yes, it must be somebody’s grandpa

Story

Over the years we have had several battles with insurance companies over meeting our daughter's medical needs.  I've spent more time on the phone with them than she's ever spent in therapy.

When you're a songwriter and you don't know what else to do, you write a song.  This was written with my good friend Les Kerr.  He's one of the best Blue's men out there, and for this one, I needed to sing the Blues.  Thanks Les

Lyrics

The Medical Insurance Blues

I’m covered in papers clear up to my ears

Made dozens of phone calls but nothing is clear

Pass me an aspirin.  Throw me a line

I’m deep in dept and they have left me behind

I’ve got the medical insurance blues

They claim to help you but it just ain’t true

I’m sifting through the difference of the benefit and lack

When they say they’ve got you covered boy

You better watch your back

Pressed every selection, they left me in hold

I’m not just a number.  I’m not just a code

I’ve heard all the muzak that I want to hear

Is there one human who can lend me an ear?

I’ve got the medical insurance blues

They claim to help you but it just ain’t true

I’m sifting through the difference of the benefit and lack

When they say they’ve got you covered boy

You better watch your back

I’ve got the medical insurance blues

Can we bring this up for review?

I’ve got the medical,

I mean the major medical insurance blues
